HOPE are a small award-winning National charity based in London dedicated to supporting and connecting families and children who have been affected by Epilepsy.
We provide a safe space for families to socialise, reduce isolation and build relationships. They are able to access information, support and guidance from epilepsy specialists and from each other, while their children can have some fun!
Many of the exhausted parents still live much of their lives in “lockdown” due to their child’s condition. Many are unable to work due to the care they need to provide for their child/children.
HOPE donates anti-suffocation pillows to children suffering from nocturnal seizures. HOPE beleive it is vital to raise greater awareness of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). HOPE also believes that parents should be made aware of how they might reduce their child’s risk of SUDEP: by ensuring their children have as few seizures as possible and using equipment such as anti-suffocation pillows and seizure alert devices to maximise safety.
We hold our monthly sessions in a special needs school in North London. There are fantastic facilities for children to enjoy, we also provide entertainment and food for all the family.
These sessions are a much needed chance for parents to meet other parents, talk to our medical experts or to decompress and have a bit of respite while our volunteers entertain the children.
We offer fun days out and experiences for families as a form of respite.
Outings can sometimes be stressful or overwhelming for our children and families, so we work closely with the venues to make sure that the visit is as seamless as possible.
We want children with epilepsy, and also their siblings, to be able to enjoy these experiences like everyone else.
