Objectives

Home Start provides Volunteers to support and mentor families with children under 8 years of age. The objective is to give these children the best chance of a good start in their lives and life chances. Home Start trained volunteers typically spend 3 hours per week supporting their client families, complementing the work of local authorities, the NHS and other supporting agencies. Since opening, Home Start East Ayrshire has supported up to 54 families each year. As a consequence of this support all these families now have the increased confidence and independence that allows them to give their children the best possible start in life.

Activities

The recruitment and training of Volunteers. The acceptance of the referral of families that have one or more children under the age of 8 years old and are resident in East Ayrshire, needing support. The matching of the trained volunteers with the referred families. The support of these families through a combination of visits, friendship and social events. The bringing together of a number of charitable and public sector agencies to provide support to families as a whole.
