Objectives

Home-Start South Derbyshire has been at the heart of its local community for over 30 years, supporting families with young children who are experiencing a difficult time in their lives for whatever reason.

Home-Start recruits and trains parent volunteers to provide confidential support in the family home for as long as the family needs or until the youngest child starts school.

Without volunteers there would be no service. Home-Start volunteers provide vital support, helping to strengthen the family unit and empower families to move forward, enabling them to cope and provide the best start in life for their children.

Activities

Home-Start South Derbyshire recruits and trains parent volunteers to support local families.

  • All volunteers attend a mandatory 6 week training course held 1 day per week during term time.
  • All volunteers undergo an enhanced criminal record check

Volunteers are matched with a family after attending the training course and provide emotional and practical support for just 2 hours per week.

Support includes:

  • Befriending
  • Attending appointments with the family
  • Accessing local play groups with the family
  • Signposting to local services
  • Providing a listening ear
  • Sharing parenting advice and experience
  • Building the family's confidence
  • Enabling the family to feel a part of their community
