Objectives

Home-Start North and West Gloucestershire is a local charity that provides emotional and practical support to parents with at least one child under five years old.

We are an independent charity affiliated to Home-Start UK, the UK’s leading family support charity. Our volunteers are all parents or have parenting experience, and are trained, supported and supervised to Home-Start UK standards.

Our aim is to provide early support to families who are facing the challenges and stresses of family life, including a wide range of difficulties such as isolation, low self-esteem, physical and mental health issues.

We work alongside parents in their own homes to help raise their self-confidence and their ability to cope in an increasingly pressured society. Our emphasis is on parents helping parents.

Activities

Our work is split into two areas.

We offer group led sessions across the Forest of Dean, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury areas

  • Bump and Me groups provide reassurance, support and knowledge on the pregnancy journey.
  • Mothers in Mind is a group for Mum's where worries and concerns can be shared in a relaxed and supportive environment
  • Baby and Me is a baby and post natal group for families learning to adjust to parenthood and learning how to care for new babies under 6 months of age

We are also constantly seeking volunteers who can join our 'Parent to Parent' support and advice service.   Our home visiting volunteers are at the heart of the work we do here at Home-Start North and West Gloucestershire. Our volunteers make it possible for us to support many families in need in The Forest of Dean, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

Home-Start’s non-time limited support means that families have time to build up a relationship of trust with Home-Start who are able to walk alongside the family for as long as is necessary and needed to overcome the challenges they are facing.
