Objectives

Home-Start is the leading volunteer family support charity in the UK.  Home-Start Newark is a small, local charity within this network.  We provide support and friendship to families at home and help parents build better lives for their children in their own communities.

Home-Start Newark believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them achieve their full potential.

We care deeply about what we do and the people we help.  By working at the heart of the family, what we do changes lives.

Activities

We recruit and train volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, to visit families with at least one child under five, at home, to offer them free, informal, friendly and confidential support.

Home visiting volunteers are matched with a local family and visit them for 2-3 hours, once a week, for as long as they're needed.  Volunteers are a helping hand for struggling families and can offer befriending and practical and/or emotional support through tough times.
