Home-Start Merton exists to enable families experiencing stress or difficulties to meet the needs of their children 0-8 years.
Our carefully trained volunteers, who all have experience of bringing up children, give emotional and practical help to parents, with at least one child under 8. By visiting a family in their own home and offering friendship, Home-Start Merton volunteers represent a lifeline for many families who are finding it hard to cope.
Another way to volunteer is by becoming a trustee. A trustee is a volunteer that sits on the trustee board. Trustees are not responsible for the day to day running of the scheme but they do carry out a wide range of duties and are responsible for making the charity effective, providing overall direction and the sound management of funds.
The board is led by the chair, and trustees are jointly responsible for good governance and employment of the staff team. The time commitment is 10 hours per month.
Home-Start Merton has been supporting families in Merton since 1993 and offers support, friendship and practical help to families.
By offering support within the family home, providing a non judgemental approach we help to provide better outcomes for children. Volunteer support families facing a variety of difficulties including; loneliness, Ill health, Isolation, child’s behaviour, disabilities, relationship difficulties, mental health, domestic abuse to name some of the issues that families may experience.
Trustees ensure that the scheme is run in accordance with Home-Start UK's policies and procedures.
