Home-Start Lambeth improves the life chances of some of London’s most vulnerable children by supporting their parents to meet their needs.
We provide high quality support for families with babies and children under the age of 5. We believe that the earliest years make the biggest impact. We want to make sure those years count so that no child’s future is limited.
We were set up in 1998 by a group of local people who wanted a Home-Start service to support Lambeth families.
Our mission is to provide emotional and practical support to families who are having difficulties managing parenting for a variety of different reasons. Most parents would agree that being a parent, whatever your circumstances, isn’t easy. Combined with additional pressures, such as illness or financial struggles, parenting can be tough. We provide trained volunteers who help parents overcome challenges and support them to create happy lives for their children.
We offer support, friendship and practical help to families in Lambeth with children under 5. Support is mainly offered through volunteers with parenting or childcare experience, who help families address a range of issues through weekly home visits. The issues volunteers support families with vary but may include isolation, depression, poverty, bereavement, poor housing, lack of routines, etc. By supporting parents, we ensure that their children have the best start in life.
In addition to this core work, we provide volunteer support targeted at domestic abuse survivors. We also run the Freedom Programme which aims to help women avoid abusive relationships.
