Home-Start Kennet (also known locally as HSK) is one of a network of 340 local Home-Starts in the UK. We are a voluntary organisation that offers friendship, support and practical help to parents with young children in their own homes. This is to provide early intervention or to support families to be more resilient.
We are celebrating our 30th year and work with families from all walks of life throughout Marlborough, Pewsey, Devizes and Tidworth and their surrounding villages. We have also now expanded our area to cover Calne and Chippenham. Families are referred to us through a number of avenues including Health Visitors, the Army Welfare Service, Parent Support Advisors or they can approach us direct by completing a Self Referral Form.
We recruit and train parent-volunteers to provide support which is tailored to the individual needs of each family. Our volunteers offer a valuable skilled listening ear, so that parents themselves can find constructive solutions to the problems they are facing.
We are also piloting group support for military families moving into our area. This past year has seen an increase in the number of military service families or veterans asking for our help.
We are currently recruiting trustess with finance and fundraising skills among others. We are also looking for home visiting volunteers for a training course commencing later in 2018.
