Objectives

Home-Start Glasgow North is a voluntary organisation set up to increase the confidence and independence of families with at least one child under five years old who are experiencing difficulties.

We provide support for families across the whole of North Glasgow.
Our office is based in Maryhill adjacent to the Maryhill Community Centre
in Avenuepark Street.

Activities

.Home-start Glasgow North offers families a variety of services. As well as our unique home-visiting service we now have a choir, family group, English classes and a Welcome group. All of these opportunities depend on the amazing skills and committment of our volunteers.Without volunteers we would not be able to support the large numbers of families that we work with every year.

We select, train and support volunteers who:

  • Visit families in their own homes
  • Offer support, friendship and practical assistance
  • Encourage the parents’ strengths and emotional well-being for the ultimate benefit of the children
  • Encourage families to widen their network of relationships and to use effectively the support and services available within the community.

The scheme currently has 8 members of staff. Our volunteers are people from different backgrounds and of different ages, but all have parenting experience. Volunteers are carefully selected for their friendliness, practical approach and understanding
