Home-Start Camden And Islington supports families with at least one child under five going through a difficult time. Our service is open to everyone and our home visiting work is unique. Families are supported in their own homes - parents supporting other parents in a variety of situation including isolation, bereavement, multiple birth, illness and disability.
The unique one-to-one relationship that develops between a volunteer and a parent allows Home-Start support to be exactly tailored to the needs of each family we support. The relationship grows each week as the volunteer visits providing non-judgemental emotional and practical support to the parent: helping them grow in confidence and so give their children the best possible start in life.
Volunteers are from all walks of life, each and every one a parent, grandparent or with parenting experience.
We do this by recruiting volunteers who undergo our 8 days training sessions covering various topics: Personal Safety, Safeguarding Children, Confidentiality & Commitment, Boundaries & Assertiveness Skills, and Listening Skills Body Language.
All our volunteers go through stringent checks including references & DBS.
