Objectives

The Historical Dance Society

We promote education in the performance, costume and music of European and other dances from 12th to 19th century as well as their appreciation.

Activities

Our activities include:

  • Research into historical dances and their associated dance music
  • Producing teaching books and CDs
  • Organising workshops, conferences, annual summer schools
  • Publishing research findings

We are a membership based organization with members in the UK and overseas.

We have no office as such. Our 8 trustees live in various parts of the UK, but come together for 3 or 4 committee meetings a year. The work of the society is done by these trustees working alongside a number of associates. There are several subject specific sub groups – e.g. for publications - and their work feeds into the main committee.

We have a website and create regular newsletters to keep our members informed. We are active users of social media.
