HighTide is a new writing theatre company based in the East of England. Over the past thirteen years we have established an unparalleled track record of successfully launching the careers of emerging British playwrights.
Our work is showcased in an annual festival in Suffolk, first at The Cut in Halesworth and, over the past five years, in Aldeburgh. We have staged productions in collaboration with the highest quality theatres across the UK, from the Traverse in Edinburgh to the Royal Exchange in Manchester, Theatre Royal Bath and the National Theatre in London. HighTide productions are challenging, contemporary and political, and are written by diverse new playwrights. Our alumni speak for themselves: Luke Barnes, Adam Brace, E V Crowe, Elinor Cook, Theresa Ikoko, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Anders Lustgarten, Joel Horwood, Ella Hickson, Nessah Muthy, Vinay Patel, Nick Payne, Beth Steel, Al Smith, Jack Thorne and Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig.
HighTide is an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation, and is further supported by Principal Corporate Sponsor Lansons, who provide the company with its London office. Other recent major supporters of HighTide include the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the Foyle Foundation and the Backstage Trust.
In March 2020 and in response to the unprecedented shutdown of the industry with Covid-19 Pandemic, we launched the Lighthouse Programme, a range of initiatives designed to support artists during this critical time. In total, the programme was able to support over 300 professional artists across the UK, and provide cultural and educational experiences to hundreds of young people in Suffolk.
