Objectives

Help Counselling, a memeber of the BACP, provides affordable short and long term counselling to the local community in central and west London. We work with adults aged 18 and upwards with a range of difficulties including anxiety, stress and depression.

We also provide a successful and well established counselling training placement, fulfilling our second charitable aim to add more qualified counsellors into the sector.

Help can offer talking therapies at a significant discount to private therapy rates, so that the charity can respond to the critical needs to provide affordable and long-term mental health services within the community. This often bridges a critical gap, as many NHS Trusts do not provide free long-term talking therapy service within IAPT services.

Activities

Help works with trainee counsellors who provide their time for free as part of their placement. Each trainee will work with up to 3 clients at one time. Sessions are held weekly. Help provides regular supervision for trainees as they undertake their placement and this ensures all work is done safely, with client well being a key component of our approach. Through this structured approach we support trainees to achieve their professional accreditation, meeting the standards set by the BACP or UKCP and training organisations, e.g. Metanoia, The Minster, CCPE.

Since autumn 2020 Help has been offering a full suite of professional online talking therapy services and all our counsellors are trained to work and support clients online. Whilst Help has ambitions to return to face to face services in the future, with current government restrictions in place, this is not currently possible.
