Objectives

Heartline Families supports children with heart disorders and their families, whatever the condition, wherever it is treated throughout the UK and Ireland.

We provide support though and online forum, by email and telephone.  We publish a handbook for parents 'Heart Children', provide discounted caravan park holidays, PGL weekend activity breaks, wetsuits, bereavement support.

Activities

Our strategic objective is to support - our services may support in some way but also provide a conduit for contact so that families can raise any queries or anxieties and be pointed in the right direction for help if we cannot provide it in that case.  An example of this is provision of wetsuits - practically heart children often suffer from the cold and cannot tolerate being in water for long.

Some children have scarring from surgery they do not want to exhibit.  Wetsuits are difficult to find in the variety of sizes needed, so by sourcing these and providing them free to our families, we can solve the child's problem, and also give the parents the confidence to allow their child to participate in a safe activity (and sometimes the only sport they are able to participate in). The same time, talking about the child's sizing is an opportunity to enquire how he or she is doing, and offer a listening ear, or advice, or contact with another who can help.  We also work with national organisations and other charities to improve health and social services, providing the opportunity for families to contribute to research.
