Objectives

Headway Luton is a charity that provides support for around 230 people with an acquired brain injury (ABI). An ABI can happen to anyone at any time. A road traffic accident on the commute home from work, a rugby tackle gone wrong, drug and alcohol misuse, a sudden stroke or an infection can all result in someone’s life being turned upside down. Every 90 seconds, someone is admitted to hospital with a brain injury and 1 in 64 people are currently living with the effects. Our aim is to help people at any stage of their journey to recovery to become as independent as possible. We do this by providing a wide range of professional services such as emotional and mental health support for the client as well as their families, advocacy, and referrals to other social and health services. We also provide activities that focus on improving cognitive and physical skills enabling clients to live independently.

Activities

We run a day centre in Luton 5 days a week (Monday to Friday 9am-3pm). In the day centre, clients participate in a variety of activities such as physiotherapy, yoga, art, music, IT training, discussions, cognitive exercises, cookery and so on.

Clients and their families/carers are also able to access support in other aspects of their lives for example help with filling out forms, referrals to other services etc
