Objectives

HFS is the local independent furniture & electrical reuse charity that has been fighting furniture poverty in Hastings & Rother since 1988.

Our Vision – Every person, in our community, should have a bed to sleep on, a cooker to make basic meals with and the essential furniture to create a comfortable, safe home.

Our Mission – To help alleviate poverty by providing quality re-used furniture and electrical goods to low-income households; creating opportunities to enable individuals to improve their lives; diverting waste from landfill and reducing CO2e emissions. HFS – alleviating poverty, creating homes, rebuilding lives and protecting the planet.

In 2022 HFS...

  • Helped 4200 families

  • Saved 407 tons from going to landfill

  • Prevented 468 tons of CO2e from being produced

Activities

HFS has 3 large stores in Hastings and Rother. Our primary aim is to provide low cost quality reused furniture to people on low income. We also provide employment and training opportunities and we are proud to be part of the circular economy. Every time you choose to buy a 2nd hand item instead of something new, you're making a choice that helps the environment. When you purchase a 2nd hand table, for example, you're preventing the need to manufacture one more new table and conserving natural resources. This translates to reduced CO2 emissions, almost ½ ton, the equivalent of flying from London to Istanbul!
