HART Wildlife Rescue is a registered charity which runs a wildlife hospital in North East Hampshire, providing a rescue, treatment and rehabilitation service for wildlife from all over Hampshire and surrounding counties. HART also gives advice to vets, the RSPCA and members of the public from all over the country, as well as providing talks and work experience opportunities for students. We currently treat around 2000 animals every year and play an integral part in the fight against climate change and habitat loss.
There is no doubt that without HART’s help, many injured, sick or abandoned wild animals would suffer long and painful deaths, or would be put to sleep unnecessarily. Happily, over half make a full recovery and so can be returned to the wild.
HART Wildlife Rescue was founded in early 1996 by June and Bob Gibbs at their home in Overton as a result of a request from an RSPCA officer to overwinter some hedgehogs at Dellands, Overton. Originally known as the Hampshire Animal Rescue Team, the service HART offers has constantly needed to change and grow as more and more casualties are brought to us. The hospital deals with around two thousand casualties every year and in June 2010 moved to new purpose-built premises near Medstead in North East Hampshire, with excellent modern treatment and rehabilitation facilities. We have an animal ambulance to rescue and transport casualties. We also have a shop in Alton to help raise much needed funds.
