Objectives

Prevention is better than cure and Happy Space is the mental health charity that protects the minds of tomorrow. So many mental health problems are preventable through good wellbeing education and Happy Space is on a mission to provide the resources that parents and schools need in order to deploy that education.

Our vision is a society free of mental health stigma where every young person is equipped with the toolkit they need to look after their mental health in the transition to adulthood and beyond.

From our research, we learned that there are certain aspects of everyday living that could prove crucial to the prevention of mental health issues. Those aspects fall in the categories of: “Mind”, “Food”, “Body”, “Finance” and “the Arts”. We call these the “five pillars of mental wellbeing” and they provide the framework for our guidebooks, lesson plans and workshops which we distribute nationwide.

Activities

Happy Space has worked with over 35,000 students across 1,250 schools through guidebooks, lesson plans, digital resources and talks. We have worked with a variety of educational institutions and organisations, including Thomas’s School Clapham, Farnham College, James Allen’s Girls’ School, Frensham Heights School, First Steps ED, Sophie Says and Now & Beyond.

Happy Space performed a survey of 90 schools, our guidebook received 4.6 out of 5 stars and a usefulness rating of 9 out of 10. In addition, we discovered that:

  • Students' understanding of the link between exercise and positive mental wellbeing increased by 50%.
  • Students' understanding of the link between food and positive mental wellbeing increased by 80%.
  • Students' understanding of the link between finance and positive mental wellbeing increased by 94%
