Objectives

We are a London wide charity, supporting pregnant women and their new babies and young children who have fled war, violence and traffickers and are seeking safety in the UK. We offer support to these vulnerable new mums and their babies as they face the challenges of being alone and isolated in a new place. We enable them to integrate into UK society so that they and their children can have a safer, brighter future. Started in 2013, HBC has 5 established outreach groups across Greater London and Surrey and a weekly online community, where peer-to-peer relationships can flourish and members can access a range of vital services – perinatal care, health advice, practical help with essential items, therapeutic and welfare support, English language training, a children’s development programme, employment training and advocacy services.

Activities

We are a user led charity, committed to employing and working with volunteers who have lived experience. HBC prioritises employment opportunities for women from the community, 11 of our 12 paid staff are community members including 5 of the management team. Our Board is Co-Chaired by one or our founding mums, Oufia Ibrir who has professional banking qualifications and our Finance and Risk Committee is Co-Chaired by Methodia Mathias, FCA.
