Objectives

Hackney Caribbean Elderly Organisation is a community driven organisation, dedicated to keeping older people in Hackney and surrounding boroughs active, independent and loving life!  HCEO’s experience lies mainly with the African Caribbean community, but we are socially inclusive and embrace differences in all areas of our work. We provide a range of activities and services from our warm and welcoming day Centre in the heart of Stoke Newington aimed at promoting health and well-being, reducing loneliness and isolation, supporting independence and providing information and advocacy to older people and their carers. Our members range in age from 55 through to 103 years old!

Activities

Our lunch club operates 4 days a week, with one of those days specifically for older people who have mild to medium onset dementia. The club provides an opportunity for members to connect with others in a friendly, accessible environment and receive a hot, nutritious 2 course lunch cooked freshly each day on the premises. While at the Centre, members take part in exercise and dance classes, arts and crafts workshops, cultural activities, games & quiz afternoons and discussions on health or personal welfare topics. In addition, we provide outreach work via our Advocacy and Befriending service, offering advice, guidance and support to those unable to access the Centre. We also facilitate access to the community with trips to the seaside, theatre, museums and holidays.
