Objectives

Since the launch of Guy’s Gift in 2009, we have helped over 850 children to cope with a range of debilitating problems that arise following bereavement.  With our support they have been able to move forward and go on to reach their full potential after experiencing such a life-changing event.

We are passionate about our counselling and support service for children, young people and their families.  We know that bereavement in childhood can have far-reaching consequences that can impact on an individual’s well being into adulthood.  Problems that can arise following bereavement include anger, problems with family dynamics, bullying, separation anxiety, disturbed sleep, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, poor school attendance and a loss of purpose in life.  We believe that early intervention can prevent problems developing and therefore diminishing an individual’s potential and that every child has the right to a happy and fulfilling childhood.

Activities

Guy’s Gift was developed as a community-based counselling and support service.  Our operational model means that we do not work from a fixed base, which would be both costly and restrictive.  Most meetings take place in a school or other safe venue and occasionally the home.  This ensures that we take away the most significant barrier to accessing our service – the need to travel to a counselling venue, therefore eliminating the time and money that this can take.  We have developed a professional, highly efficient, low cost operation.
