Objectives

We have secured a lease on historic Madelvic House in Granton so that this unique building can be used by and for the local community.  Once the offices of the first purpose built car factory in the UK, making electric vehicles in 1898, the building now offers space and activities to benefit local people.  We aim to celebrate Granton's rich heritage as well as offer a range of events and activities that help to breathe new life into the area.

Activities

We offer a wide range of activities, including:

  • Community garden and Wildflower Nursery - with regular Wednesday morning drop-in session for volunteers to grow and tend the space or just enjoy the garden.  The nursery supplies community projects and gardens across Edinburgh with wildflowers to enhance biodiversity in the city
  • History group - offers walks, talks, exhibitions and other events to highlight the rich industrial history of the building itself and the surrounding area
  • Art and crafts - we offer a range of art and craft workshops and events, including Edinburgh Scrapstore, which offers materials for upcycled crafts
  • Social and educational events - there is also a range of activities provided by local groups who use the space, including herbal remedy workshops, yoga classes, and international women's group and much more
  • Cafe - we have a small kitchen which we plan to develop as a cafe
