Objectives

GlobalGirl Media UK  (GGM UK) empowers young women aged 14-22, especially those from disadvantaged communities, through digital media training, to bring their voices to the global media stage.  We give girls the tools and confidence to make content from their own powerful perspectives – changing the imbalanced media landscape. The disadvantages the girls face might be financial or based on their ethnicity, race, religion, disability, refugee status, mental health issues or gender identity.

Activities

Our main activities include:

  • Our 3-week intensive GGM Academy training, where GlobalGirls develop their own stories, blogs and films.
  • Skills-booster training events that focus on keeping pace with changes in technology.
  • Our newsroom is where graduates continue to gain training, producing videos/blogs and covering events/conferences.
  • We profile our graduates' work at the annual GGM Film Festival.
  • We run a mentoring program where each GlobalGirl is paired with professional female journalists, broadcasters and experts within the media profession.
  • We organise regular panel discussions/ conferences, particularly around International Women's Day and the Day of the Girl
