Objectives

GlitterBeam radio is an LGBTQ+ internet radio station

It’s aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, however can be enjoyed by everyone. Our claim is Music With Sparkle as we don’t play the usual mainstream playlist, but only big anthems. We offer a variety of shows, live and pre-recorded, on different themes: every show has a specific format, which makes every show unique. We develop shows in house but also open up our platform to other presenters. One of our highlighted traits from professional presenters is that we offer the opportunity to aspiring presenters. We help and give them guidance, develop their skills in presenting, editing, broadcasting laws and regulations etc and then provide them airtime. Our shows offer an incredible variety of topics that can be interesting, quirky and interactive. A lot of shows you would not find in mainstream media.

Activities

2019

We have covered a whole Pride Season (from Dover, to London, to Brighton & Hove, to Birmingham, and many others) to ensure that even those who cannot attend pride can enjoy.

We were approached by Parapride to help with their first ever Pride festivals targeted towards people with disabilities. We have worked with them ever since and accessibility is always at the forefront of our minds where we are able to effectively provide it.

GlitterBeam has been nominated an shortlisted for the Rainbow Honours in the category “Small Brand”

We have been building current networks to include more mental and sexual health awareness to the community. We have taught out and interviewed some well known names such as Natasha Walker, co chair of Switchboard LGBT, Hillary Cook from the Medway Gender Sexual Diversity Centre and Aimee Jones from the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability.

2020

We have been officially accredited to provide coverage of the first DragCon UK, with live coverage and interviews with the most loved queens from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” (Bianca Del Rio, Baga Chips, Sum Ting Wong, Asia ‘O Hara, Blair St.Clair, BenDeLaCreme and many more)

We have provided live broadcast of the special event “Disabled Queer and Here” from The Royal Vauxhall Tavern in London.

With the Covid-19 Pandemic and many countries in lockdown, we have increased our schedule with new ad-hoc shows as a part of a wider initiative called StayHome with GlitterBeam.

GlitterBeam has broadcasted several online Pride Festival, given the impossibility of public gatherings, like the Global Pride, the Trans Pride Brighton, the Mama G’s Family Pride Party and the Medway & Gravesham Pride.

The station has been nominated for the 2020 National Diversity Awards.

Why GlitterBeam?

GlitterBeam is different from other LGBTQ+ Radio Stations. It’s a project created from members of the LGBTQ+ community for every LGBTQ+ person, including Rainbow families: this is why despite not being regulated by Ofcom, our scheduled shows offer appropriate contents to any age before watershed.

We entertain, inform and we give space to all the amazing colours of the rainbow flag. The music selection is entirely made by anthems that will make you sing and/or dance; our shows are all different, based on the presenters style and specific topics, that makes them fun and unique.

We have such a far reach globally have have received messages of support from our listeners. Especially touching are the communications from anonymous individuals from countries where it is against the law to be LGTB expressing how we give them hope that things will change.

We strive for accessibility for all, as such we have developed our station and our applications in house for various platforms with guidance from online resources and organisations.

GlitterBeam is for everyone and our listeners are dedicated and loyal collectively known as The Glitterati. We may not be related, but we are all like extended family.

GlitterBeam is a fairly new radio station, and its still entirely funded personally from us, with no advertising.
