Objectives

  • Our mission is to benefit the community, economy, environment and heritage of Glendale. We do this by
  • Providing a multi purpose community hub
  • Providing business development and work opportunities
  • Provision of affordable housing
  • Working in partnership with public, private and voluntary sector organizations
  • Supporting community initiatives
  • The re- use of old buildings
  • Engaging with the Glendale Community

Activities

  • We run the Wooler Food Bank and own the Cheviot Centre that acts as a community hub. We have rooms for hire here used by various groups from Yoga to Camera club and we have the Police Station, Newcastle Building Society, the library and Tourist Information housed here too. A number of organizations rent an office space here with us and we also have business set up pods to allow enterprising individuals the chance to rent an office space at a very reasonable rate and get their new businesses off the ground. These are incredibly popular and as one leaves other people come along very quickly.( one out one in)
  •  Remote Learning
We have created a dedicated learning space within the Cheviot Centre, which is available for everyone to use, providing access to learning remotely (online), in class, or perhaps via a hybrid approach depending on the individual's needs.
  • We are partners in various projects including:
  • Reconnecting the Wooler Water
This is an innovative project managed by the Tweed Forum, which will remove Haugh Head ford and associated check weirs reconnecting 22km of the Wooler Water to the Tweed catchment.
Working with various partners we will deliver the creation of a heritage trail and guided walks programme along the Wooler Water from May 2022.
  • Cheviot Hills Heritage
We are working in partnership with Inherit, which is part of a heritage charity called the York Archaeological Trust. Inherit are undertaking a new project called Inspiring Rural Heritage in collaboration with Durham University.
  • Digital Engagement
We are in the early stages of developing a storm proof digital engagement system. Working with local partners including several parish councils and the Open Lab at Newcastle University we are exploring ways of digitally disseminating information across Glendale which does not rely on mains power. Think solar panels and 4G dongles to power a monitor.
