We are a day care centre for the more elderly and frail of the local inhabitants from the 12 Villages of the Glaven Valley and surrounding area. For 3 days per week we collect and bring to our centre clients for a full day of good food, social interaction and basic medical care. For the other two days we have a shorter day to which those that are more mobile can come under their own steam, when again an excellent mid day meal is freshly cooked, enabling clients to enjoy the conversation with others in a relaxing environment.
We are a particularly important asset to the local community, made up as it is of a high retired population, which so often end with just one remaining person left on their own resulting in what could be a lonely existence. By providing the means to a wider world, Glaven Caring provides a safe, friendly and as the title suggest, a caring facility, staffed with experts and enthusiastic volunteers.
We are funded through the generosity of the local community, who have supported us for nearly 40 years, showing how highly they regard the service we provide.
Firstly all of our care day clinics are collected in our own Mini Bus from their homes and bought to the centre. Staff are on hand to provide coffee, morning news papers and conversation. Bathing is available to those that want, as is hairdressing and a toe nail service.
A full 3 course lunch is then served in our Dining Room, where again staff encourage lively conversation for all.
On retiring to the lounge, coffee is served and some form of entertainment is given, ranging from a local school choir, a film show, quizzes and sing alongs, all done to ensure clients have a meaningful and enjoyable day with us. At the end Clients are bussed back to their own homes with staff ensuring all are safely enclosed.
