Objectives

The aims of the organisation are to: (1) save people money and tackle inequality, giving low income households affordable access to tools and equipment, (2) change people’s perception of consumerism, promoting sharing as a sustainable alternative to shopping, (3) build a culture of democratic and community ownership and active citizenship through volunteering and cooperative governance, and (4) provide opportunities for people to learn practical DIY and sustainability skills and knowledge

Activities

  1. Library - People can join the Tool Library through a pay-what-you-can annual membership, which allows Members access to an ever growing library of over 800 items. We also offer a drop-off and collection service to Kinning Park Complex, a community center in the South West of Glasgow, using an e-cargo bike and trailer. We are exploring ways to expand our service across Glasgow.
  2. Volunteering - Volunteers are integral to our organisation and are involved in strategic decision making and day-to-day activities, from the delivery of the service, cataloging tools, maintaining and repairing equipment, implementing service improvements, and facilitating and supporting at public events. This provides a space for people to meet new people, learn new skills, and develop confidence and career experience
  3. Events - We hold workshops and events, such as our DIY Workshops for Women programme, that teach people skills and knowledge that build individual and community resilience.
