Objectives

Giving World is a small national charity. We distribute new business surplus products (unsold, end of line, discontinued lines) to people suffering poverty and hardship across the UK.

Every year UK businesses produce £2billion worth of surplus goods (University of Leicester). Suprlus is the natural cycle of business but what we do with it can and does make a difference, helping the most vulnerable people to significantly improve their life chances.

Essential supplies are given for free to the most vulnerable in our communities. Items such as packaged food, warm winter clothing, toiletries and household products. These brand new, unopened items may otherwise be sent to landfill.

It is impossible to overstate the impact the goods have on our beneficiaries. We have powerful stories to tell of making low incomes stretch; preventing debt and high risk loans by providing household essentials like nappies and cleaning products; preventing social isolation by providing new clothes and shampoo; and by simply providing a meal on the table.

Activities

We provide:

  • activity sets, games, books and clothing to vulnerable children and young people
  • warm clothing and blankets for the elderly and homeless
  •  packaged foods, clothing, toiletries, toys and household products to low income families.

In the last 3 years, our team of 7 staff have delivered the following impacts:

  • 938,900 people living in poverty in the UK have received brand new essential life items
  • 78% of beneficiaries report and improvement in life chances and 85% reduced feelings of isolation and a feeling that someone cares
  • 3.34 million products saved from ladnfill
  • 10,655 CO2e emissions saved, the equivalent of 3.55 billion plastic bags
