Girls Rock London (GRL) is an award-winning charity based in Hackney. We provide high-quality music programming for young and adult women, trans, and non-binary people, with a specific focus on increasing access for people who face barriers to participation.
Our programmes are aimed at complete beginners as well as experienced musicians, and we work closely with community partners to respond to the needs of young people experiencing multiple and intersecting disadvantage. We aim to demystify music-making, challenge gender inequality in the music industry and wider society, and provide safe, nurturing and joyful environments in which people can develop musically, personally and socially.
We are active members of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance, a international network of youth-centered arts and social justice organisations.
Our flagship events are our annual music camps - intensive non-residential workshops for girls and trans and non-binary youth aged 11-16 and women, trans and non-binary adults aged 18+, delivered in a nurturing space by a highly-skilled team of inspiring volunteers, including music industry professionals, youth workers, and music educators. We also run shorter workshops, and advocate for gender equality at events such as panel discussions, film screenings, and in the media.
