Objectives

We represent the UK's 11 million private renters and work to empower them and campaign to improve tenancy law in order to improve the affordability, security, decency and professionalism of the private rented sector.

The private rented sector has doubled in size in the past decade. It is home to increasing numbers of children, low income households and older people. With home ownership slipping further out of reach, even for those on average incomes, all tenants need the expectation of a stable, comfortable home.

No other organisation works exclusively in the interests of private renters, who are a fragmented and diverse demographic, but with common interests that need a unified voice.

Activities

We give a voice to private renters in the media, through our spokespeople and case studies.

We develop policies designed to improve the situation of private renters and encourage politicians and civil servants to adopt these.

We facilitate the development of local renter groups to hold their local authorities to account over local enforcement of housing regulations.

We provide a platform for ordinary renters to take action as part of the wider campaign and make a difference.
