Objectives

Gene People (formerly Genetic Disorders UK) is a registered charity with a mision to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by genetic conditions.

There are currently more than 6,000 diagnosed genetic conditions affecting 1 in 25 children in the UK – this means 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed each year and more than half a million children and adults are living with a genetic condition.

Activities

We improve the lives of those affected by genetic conditions by providing information and support through our helpline and web resources, and by strengthening condition-specific support groups through our Partnership Network. We also represent the views of the genetic conditions' community at national policy level through consultations and conferences.

We have recently restructured to focus on our mission as this is a crucial time for those affected by genetic conditions, their families and carers, with many changes expected in the health and social care system.
