Objectives

For over 25 years, GDWG has provided practical and emotional support to people detained in two immigration removal centres at Gatwick through the work of volunteer befrienders, supported by an office team of seven people. We are committed to befriending and improving life for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Some of our beneficiaries are recent arrivals to the UK, often speaking little or no English, while others have lived here for many years or were even born here. In all cases, they are facing a hostile environment where caring and compassion are often in short supply. It is our work to reach out to them.

Activities

We visit people held in Immigration Removal Centres and support former detainees in the community. We also advocate for fair treatment.
