Objectives

The objects are to advance the education of the public in Maldon and the surrounding areas by providing support and assistance to Thomas Plume's Library through activities and projects and in such other ways as the Executive Committee may from time to time determine.

Activities

The Friends supports Thomas Plume's Library, which was set up in 1704 when Thomas Plume left his collection of more than 8,000 books and many pamphlets to the people of Maldon. It funds the purchase of books to replace ones that have gone missing over the centuries, helps with the restoration of old books and supports the Library in other ways. It arranges school visits to the Library and awards school prizes.
