Objectives

We are a small charity that was established to support the work of the Khasdobir Education, Welfare and Development Project in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The Project was established in 1984 by a local business person from the Khasdobir area of Sylhet and a person from the UK who was involved with the organisation Toc H.

The project has a good reputation in the area that it serves, having worked with families for several generations. The area includes slums on the outskirts of Sylhet city and tea garden communities just outside the city. The people we work with are some of the poorest people living in Sylhet (Tea Garden workers earn approximately £1 a day).  The project provides pre-school education, vocational training, outreach work and welfare support (mainly to widows living in the area). Our overall aim is to improve the life chances of the people with whom we work and our evidence of success is provided by the people who have benefited from our services.

Activities

Each year our charity aims to raise £30,000 to £45,000, which we send to Bangladesh to support the project. We have no paid staff in the UK. The work in Bangladesh is managed by a local partner organisation. This is currently the Sylhet Jubo Academy. Our activities include fundraising, monitoring the work of the project and publicising its activities - for example using social media.
