Geographical remit:

We support the vulnerable and disadvantaged students who attend Ian Mikardo High School. All have complex and profound Social, Emotional and Mental health needs.

The school's mission is to empower, build confidence and provide vulnerable young people with the skills they need to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Needless to say, the work is challenging, and while Local Authority funding covers base costs, the school needs additional money for some specialist staff, and for offsite activities which build social skills to equip students for adult life in mainstream society.

Our registered charity supports fundraising to meet these additional costs, and is managed by volunteer trustees.

The result? Over the last eight years, 95% of school leavers aged 16 to 18 have progressed to further education, training or work.

Fundraising is done by school staff, but we need to have committed, independent trustees to oversee the process of transferring funds to the school. They need to attend two meetings a year at the school, and ensure that the charity’s Annual Return is completed by an external accountant. Other business is conducted via e mail. Trustees will probably be professional people who have an interest in supporting vulnerable young people, and they will certainly understand that being a trustee is a legal responsibility and one they will take seriously.

We hope that they will want to engage with the school’s warm, friendly, dynamic and diverse community and we would welcome prospective trustees to visit the school to find out more about how we work.
