Objectives

Friends Action North East (FANE) is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne and the main purpose of our charity is to help adults in the North East of England with learning disabilities and/or autism to make and keep friends.
FANE champions friendship, raising expectations and creating opportunities to do ordinary things.
FANE has a one-to-one friendship mentoring project. We support adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who would like to develop their friendships, learn friendship skills and become more active in their local communities. Our one-to -one friendship mentoring project and our interactive website are only possible due to the dedication of our hard working volunteers.

Activities

Friends Action North East (FANE) supports people with learning disabilities and/or autism to make and keep friendships.

One of the main ways we support people is through our one to one volunteer friendship mentoring project. Our volunteer mentors support people on an individual basis to make their own friends and develop the skills of meeting up with people and engaging with friends outside of time limited groups.

FANE runs a range of social groups including:

Film group

Get out there group

Sunderland social

Gateshead social

Newsletter group

Gardening group

Dance group

Meet and Mooch group

Art group

All of these groups are only possible due to the dedication of our hard working volunteers.

We also support people to get involved in local community activities and social activities via our accessible website. We signpost people to social activities and community opportunities that are accessible to their needs. We encourage people with learning disabilities and/or autism to share their views about the accessibility of the places they visit.
