Our core purpose is to work with charitable organisations who enable young people up to the age of 24 in Cumbria & North Lancashire experiencing challenging circumstances, to thrive.
Our beneficiary area is very beautiful, containing the Lake District National Park, but the geography belies the challenges experienced by communities both in and around the Park. Barrow, West Cumbria and Morecambe in particular have some of the highest levels of deprivation in the country, with access to services in rural parts of the county such as Eden, being amongst the poorest.
Our funding alone cannot change that, but we are an integral part of a thriving civil society which is working hard to address these inequalities, and create a level starting place from which all young people can thrive
We achieve this through the distribution of about £1m a year to those organisations, ensuring equitable access to positive opportunities and supporting a young person's successful transition into adulthood.
We are guided in our funding decisions by our understanding of the limitations some circumstances can have on young lives and the importance of protective factors, such as positive role models and access to high quality youth provision.
