Formula 24 Fife, a registered charity, supports the personal development of young people aged 11-25 from communities in Fife gain STEM and teamworking skills, and experience in motorsport.
This year we are expanding our operations and our reach to young people throughout Fife. We’re also keen to provide relevant associated STEM learning opportunities for our members to further enhance their employability and preparedness for further/higher education.
Some of our members progress within racing categories and help evolve the cars, and others take their experiences and skills with them to further and higher education or potential employment.
There are currently 3 teams who design, engineer and race electric Greenpower Formula 24 cars. Within the teams and supporting crews in addition to racing, members adopt or share specific roles, leading on for example, aerodynamics, Electrics, Mechanics etc. This is complimented by opportunities that our members have to gain responsibility and undertake one of a number of roles involved in running the organisation, providing our young people with skills in areas such as administration, business planning, finance, marketing and governance.
The members are supported by a range of volunteers including STEM and other mentors. A team of 5-6 Trustee volunteers oversee the organisation and provide hands-on support and encouragement without interfering with the creativity and ingenuity of the teams.
The work of the organisation benefits from the generous support of a range of national corporate and local businesses and third sector funders.
Competitions are not simply based on a race first past the post. There are many criteria such as car endurance, distance and engineering elements influenced by design, aerodynamics, weight and materials, gearing and battery care amongst others. Competitors readily share their experiences and the expertise they have developed in the quest for new ideas.
