Objectives

Forest Community Land Trust is a membership organisation founded in 2018 with the mission of providing truly affordable, community-led housing for local people and community spaces for everyone. As a community benefit society we embrace everyone in Waltham Forest who shares the vision of greener, more affordable places created and controlled by the community, for the community. Our membership now stands at 150 people and growing, including a twelve-strong volunteer Board of Trustees and a range of membership teams taking action to create projects and expand our reach.

We aim to help people and families in housing need. Our work is important not only because it will provide housing, but the community involvement leads to greater self esteem, confidence and  sense of connection for those involved. It also has environmental impact by building an exemplar project with sustainable homes.

Activities

Since founding we have gained support from Waltham Forest Council, and we are preparing to bid for a site which is being released by them for community led housing. We have successfully fundraised, have an expanding programme of work and built positive ties with local organisations including schools, charities and community groups. We are currently undertaking a community outreach programme to ensure the inclusion of as many people as possible in our local area. Our members already speak about the skills and confidence they have gained from being involved in Forest CLT. Everyone who lives, works or volunteers in Waltham Forest is welcome to join us on our journey to create inclusive places to live.
