Objectives

FoodCycle provides a delicious communal three course meal for people at risk of food poverty and social isolation using surplus food

We haveĀ 4 main aims:

  • To strengthen communities, by bringing people together around a healthy meal and creating opportunities to talk, exchange and build lasting relationships.
  • To encourage friendships, by creating spaces for people from all backgrounds and walks of life to have fun together, to share experiences and to meet new people.
  • To improve nutrition and reduce hunger, by cooking healthy meals for those in need and sharing essential information on food and nutrition.
  • To change attitudes towards food and to reduce food waste, by using surplus food and spreading our passion for food and the environment

Our meals are open to all. Many of our guests are likely to be people and families on low incomes, older people, homeless people, people who feel lonely, people with mental health issues, refugees and asylum seekers. However, FoodCycle works to promote an inclusive community environment, where nobody has to prove their need. Our projects are open to anyone who feels that they would benefit from a free meal and a chat with other people in their community.

Activities

FoodCycle combines surplus food, volunteers and free kitchen space to create nutritious, three-course meals for the community each week.
