We are a one form entry primary school with a morning only nursery that is situated in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The school has had a bumpy ride for the past couple of years when an Ofsted inspection decided that it "Required Improvement". The appointment of a new Head Teacher and a lot of hard work by all the staff and pupils has resulted in the latest Ofsted inspection deciding this was "A Good School".
The government directive to make all schools academies by 2020 has highlighted gaps in the skills of our existing Board of Governors. As Chair of Governors I acknowledge that we need to strengthen the professions currently represented so that we can continue the upward trend of the school. We have started to look at local options regarding becoming an academy but to navigate this financial minefield will need expertise that we do not currently have. In particular we would like to recruit a governor with a background in Finance and it would be helpful if they had some experience of change management. There are some big decisions to be made soon and the future of children that don't live in the best part of town is at stake.
We are a mainstream state school for pupils aged from 3-11 that educates approximately 200 pupils. We aim to provide a creative and engaging education for our pupils and to foster their independence. We aspire to achieve excellence through a motivating curriculum with high personal expectations and ambitions that are key to a lifetime of learning. We try to work closely with the children, their families and the community to nurture, demonstrate and teach positive values.
