FC Olympia is a club based in Birmingham which has a very rich and strong influence in the local community since its inception back in 2008. The club was built on the vision of providing young adults the chance to keep playing the sport they love rather than turning to something else less productive. Providing key skills such as leadership, organisation and discipline. FC Olympia also focuses on the health and well being within the diverse communities of Birmingham, which figure in the top 10% of the Index of Multiple Deprivation. A key driver underpinning our work as a sports club is our community cohesion work.
The club has had many challenges throughout the year but have always had the courage and desire to overcome them and keep going. In 2020, we officially registered FC Olympia as a Non-profit Community Interest Company. We have now established an U21 team which is participating in the Midlands Football League. This will provide the necessary platform for our players to continue development and reach their goals.
FC Olympia’s vision is to create an environment and culture which will challenge, inspire and encourage the ambitions of the local community’s aspiring young footballers, enabling them to reach their full potential. The club will provide its players and staff with a range of experience and skills required to succeed both within football and the real world. Since everything is not about just football, we want to provide everyone linked with the club a positive life experience regardless of age, religion, race, ability; or any perceived barrier.
Our monthly activities over a 12 month period bring together children and families within local communities, including Romanians, Arabic speakers, East and West Africans, including Somalis, African Caribbean alongside English people. Activities include community and cultural activities, enabling community members to cook for each other (rather than just go to the foodbank), facilitate socially distant gatherings, awareness about mental health, well-being, healthy eating and gentle exercise workshops.
FC Olympia is also a semi professional community sports club offering competitive football to members from the BAME community within the West Midlands. We aim to create a platform where they are able to create themselves a future in sports by enabling professional careers from playing to coaching and management.
