After nearly 40 of choral excellence, Farnham Youth Choir has developed into a family of choirs that supports children to achieve extraordinary things through a shared love of singing. FYC has won international competitions from the World Choir Games (2006, China) to double gold medals at recent European Choir Games (2015, Germany and 2019, Sweden). But every bit as important as this are the local performances that underpin FYC’s year, from the Spire Church in Farnham to the Menuhin Hall in Cobham. Our dedicated team of professional musicians, led by Artistic Director, Patrick Barrett rehearses our three choirs every term-time Wednesday in Farnham. Young people not only develop world-class musical skills, but also develop team-work, a sense of belonging and an understanding of the benefits that hard work can bring.
We run three choirs for children and young people aged from 7-18. Our Training Choir is open to all and lays the groundwork of engaging children in the fun and magic of collective music-making. Our Junior and Senior Choirs are entered by audition and fulfill a regular programme of performances and competitions. In addition, we run singing workshops in local schools and have recently established a bursary scheme to ensure that no singer is deterred from joining on financial grounds.
