We re-distribute fresh, in-date food that would otherwise go to landfill, to over 100 charities in Yorkshire. The charities we supply save a significant amount of food off their food bill are able to attract vulnerable people to their services with the offer of food and obviously we are reducing unnecessary waste. Some of the charities that we supply have openly declared that they could not operate without the food that we supply to them. These charities include homeless shelters, lunch clubs for the elderly, addiction drop-in centres and hostels, breakfast clubs.
Last year we supplied enough food to provide over 800,000 meals in Yorkshire. We receive the food from the supermarket chains and their suppliers, store it in our warehouse and deliver it to each of our charities once a week using our 5 refrigerated delivery vans. We also use our warehousing facilities to provide employment-based training in warehousing, food hygiene and fork-lift truck driving.
