Recent years have seen a marked rise in the number of young people suffering serious mental health difficulties. Unless these are identified and addressed at an early stage they risk becoming life changing with devastating consequences for the individuals themselves, their families and society at large. Currently the NHS is unable to provide this vital early intervention, which is why the FCT was set up initially in Dorset in 2005 to fill this crucial gap.
Founded in Dorset in 2005, Family Counselling Trust provides counselling to children, young people and their families on low incomes, who are not able to access NHS services. We are an early intervention service, treating mental health issues before they escalate into crisis; plugging the gap caused by long waiting times and high referral thresholds. We are fully funded by generous donors and funders, and have a dedicated team of passionate staff and volunteers.
