Objectives

Our Mission is to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society by preparing them with Skills for Life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme.

Scouting is open to all young people between the ages of 4 and 25 years of age regardless of background, ethnic origin, nationality, race, gender, marital status or sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, political or religious belief.

Essex Scout County comprises of 20 Districts, one of which is devoted purely to Sailing.  Within the remaining 19 Districts there are 247 Scouts Groups with a total of c4,500 Adult Leaders delivering quality Scouting to c13,500 young people.  The County also owns and operates an Activity Centre at Skreens Park, near Chelmsford, which provides adventurous outdoor activities and is used by Scouts, Guides, external youth organisations and schools.

Activities

Every week, our volunteers empower thousands of young people to try new things, make new friends and stand on their own two feet, developing them to their full potential through the provision of a full, active and varied programme.

We give our young people the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.  There is a clear link between the purpose of Scouting and the benefits to young people.

The various and numerous Scouting activities are undertaken with the health and safety of young people taken very seriously, and the benefit of these activities far outweighing any associated risks.
