Objectives

The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper is a free recorded news and magazine service for local people who have difficulty reading text. It is not necessary to be registered as blind to receive the newspaper.

Activities

The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper produces an audio recording in a local studio on a weekly basis (currently fortnightly, post-Covid). The recording consists of three main sections:

  • The News – taken from local newspapers
  • The Magazine – with a varied selection of articles, recipes, poems and jokes and
  • The Supplement – with articles both of general interest and of special interest to the blind and partially sighted.

The recording is distributed to subscribers on a reusable memory stick by post, and played at the listener's home on a 'boom' box listening device. The memory sticks are returned for subsequent recordings. There is no charge for the newspaper.
