Objectives

To relieve financial hardship of residents of Epping Forest District and surrounding areas by supplying safe, clean furniture and tested household appliances at a discounted price to those who are in receipt of certain benefits and by supplying free furniture, bedding, linens, crockery and cutlery to those in severe financial hardship who are referred to us by relevant agencies.

To protect and preserve the environment by re-using furniture, appliances and equipment that might otherwise have been consigned to landfill, thereby also reducing the financial cost of waste disposal to local council tax payers.

To advance education by the provision of training and work experience opportunities for staff, volunteers and currently unemployed jobseekers..

Activities

EFRU’s charitable objects are being attended to as an integral part of the commercial operation. The very nature of the scheme is to increase recycling; people on benefits are helped by the discounts offered at point of sale; and those in real hardship are referred direct to EFRU’s staff by other bodies for provision of free goods. Training opportunities are offered to volunteers as a matter of course.
