Objectives

Emmaus Hertfordshire is a homeless charity providing up to 40 formerly homeless people with a safe home environment and the opportunity to work. We are one of 29 communities across the UK supporting more than 800 people, known within Emmaus as companions. Each community provides a home for as long as needed and meaningful work in a social enterprise. There are also five Emmaus groups currently working to open new communities.

Activities

We have five stores located across Hertfordshire, filled with quality secondhand furniture, electrical items, clothes and books.  We collect donated items which are recycled, restored and resold.  The proceeds from our stores funds what we do and helps the companions move on from homelessness.  We provide skilled work and training and a stable home environment, thereby giving the companions a chance to regain their self-esteem. Our aim is to provide the environment in which our companions can improve and move on in their lives, in whatever way suits them. We also provide support and assistance in helping them achieve this, and can provide training to help them back into employment.
