Objectives

We are the professional Association of EMDR clinicians and researchers seeking the highest standards for the clinical practice of EMDR in the United Kingdom and Ireland. EMDR is an acronym for ‘Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing’. EMDR is a powerful psychological treatment method that was developed by an American clinical psychologist, Dr Francine Shapiro, in the 1980s. It is now a NICE/NHS and World Health Organisation recommended treatment for PTSD, and has helped thousands recover from traumatic events.  We are a small charity of about 3000 members supported through a board of around 14 volunteer trustees who are all EMDR clinicians or researchers.

Activities

We advance the theory and practice of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) by providing a membership organisation for accreditation, training, regional groups, academic conferences, research, communication with the media and is a constituent member of EMDR Europe. We provide humanitarian assistance through subsidised membership to qualified persons in countries affected by war, disaster.
